Frequently Asked Questions
Are you gonna make me cluck like a chicken?
This is THE most frequently asked
question. No. We won't make you cluck like a chicken.
That is stage hypnosis and has nothing to do with
therapeutic hypnosis. We will not intentionally do any
thing that would cause you embarrassment.
At Jenks Hypnosis Center, we work closely with our clients to
change perceptions, behaviors or attitudes. Clucking like
a chicken has no therapeutic value.

session can last up to three hours depending upon how
fast you can read and assimilate information. Subsequent
sessions are typically one and a half to two hours.

How many sessions will it take?
The number of sessions needed
depends on the problem, attitude or behavior that a
client wants to modify. Non complex problems such
as smoking cessation or mild fears and apprehension
usually need only one or two sessions. Deep
seated or complex problems with multiple ramifications
usually take several sessions. The number depends
largely on the client and the type of
problem.

What does hypnosis feel like?
Many people feel that they haven't
been hypnotized because they do not understand what
hypnosis feels like. Although hypnotists use the word
"sleep", because it is a concept easily comprehended by
all clients, you are not asleep! Even though you are
mentally and physically relaxed, your mind is three to
four hundred percent more alert than in your normal
state. That is a lifetime away from sleep! You are
aware of everything that is going on around you.
Hypnosis is a state of deep concentration. Have you
ever concentrated on something so hard, you lost all
track of time? That is a hypnotic trance. Have you ever
been so engrossed in something you were startled when
someone spoke to you? You were self hypnotized. All
hypnosis is self hypnosis.
The therapist only acts as a guide. When you follow
the instructions of the hypnotherapist and allow
things to happen, change is effected.

Are you sure I can be hypnotized? It's been tried before
without success.
Almost anyone can be
hypnotized. Hypnosis is a 100% consent state by you.
You must follow the instructions and accept the
suggestions of the hypnotherapist. Remember, you are,
at all times, in control. You can stop anything from
happening with just the slightest thought. If you don't
like the suggestions given to you, you don't accept
them. It is really that simple.
The only thing that would prevent a person from entering
this wonderful state of deep relaxation is a fear or
misconception of what hypnosis is or what can happen
in hypnosis. The more common fears and misconceptions
are addressed on this page.

Can you make me do something I don't want to do?
Contrary to Hollywood movies, -
No. You are in control. You can not be made to do
anything in the hypnotic state that you would not do in
your normal state. If you would not rob a bank in your
normal state, you will not rob a bank in your hypnotic
state. You can not be made to do anything against your
personal code of conduct and moral values.

Can you make me tell you something I don't want you to
know?
No. Since you are in control and
your mental state is more alert and enhanced, you will
not divulge any information you do not want the
hypnotherapist to know. In fact, I would have a better
chance of obtaining proprietary information
in your normal state than in the hypnotic state. Why?
Because your mind is 300% to 400% more alert in the
hypnotic state than in your normal state. All your
secrets will remain just that - Your secrets.

How does hypnosis work?
Everyone has a
"critical factor". The part of the conscious mind that
filters and judges information that comes into the
brain. If the critical factor doesn't like the
information, it simply disregards it. In the induction,
the critical factor is bypassed and the hypnotic state
is achieved. In hypnosis, the therapist works with the
subconscious mind which has only limited critical
factor. Because everything you have ever seen, heard or
done is stored in your subconscious mind, excellent
results can be achieved.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis and not wake up?
Another very common misconception. No. Since you aren't
asleep, there is no waking up involved. But you will emerge on your own.
Yes, this is semantics but words are our tools and we must
use them correctly. Even if you were left in a hypnotic
state, you will emerge after a few minutes or you would
simply fall into a normal sleep and awaken refreshed.
Hypnosis is not and never can be a permanent
state.

How do I know this will work?
Nothing in life
comes with a guarantee, hypnosis included. Success is
dependent upon you and your mental attitude. Any attitude
other than "I like it I know it will work" will hinder
the success of the session.
"I like it. I hope it works" or "it sounds good,
let's give it a try" or "I don't know about this
stuff, but it can't be worse than the problem I've got now."
None of these mental attitudes will promote a successful
session.
Remember, the hypnotist is only the guide. You are in control.
However, with this attitude - "I like it; I know it will
work" - you and Jenks Hypnosis Center can achieve
marvelous results.
